About the Conference

Algeria is exposed to a wide range of major natural hazards, including earthquakes, landslides, and floods. These risks pose a significant threat to public safety, the sustainability of infrastructure, and national socio-economic development. The cities of Chlef, Algiers, and Boumerdes—severely affected by devastating earthquakes in 1980 and 2003, as well as floods in 2010—demonstrate the vulnerability of urban areas to natural disasters and highlight the urgent need to integrate prevention and resilience into civil engineering practices. The human, economic, and social impacts of these disasters serve as a stark reminder of the importance of effective risk assessment, management, and mitigation strategies. In this context, RISKGC 2026 aims to provide a platform for scientific and technical reflection where lessons learned from past events can be translated into concrete prevention and risk management strategies.

The conference aims to :

Analyze and share lessons from past disasters in order to better anticipate future risks;Develop advanced modeling tools and probabilistic approaches to assess structural reliability and performance; Promote a culture of resilience that integrates infrastructure safety, monitoring, and maintenance; Modernize infrastructure engineering practices and governance framework,Promote cooperation between universities, laboratories, engineering firms, public institutions, and industry in order to establish a coherent national strategy. Position Boumerdes as a living laboratory where the memory of past catastrophes becomes a scientific, educational, and practical driver for innovation. RISKGC 2026 therefore represents a strategic event aimed at strengthening prevention, enhancing resilience, and improving the management of major risks in civil engineering across Algeria.
