The 1st National Conference on Major Risks in Civil Engineering (RISK GC 2026) is a premier platform for sharing research and advances in risk prevention, structural resilience, and infrastructure safety.
It brings together academics, researchers, and professionals to exchange ideas and promote collaboration. Participants are invited to submit their contributions and take part in this scientific event. We look forward to welcoming you to Boumerdès!
Algeria is exposed to a wide range of major natural hazards, including earthquakes, landslides, and floods. These risks pose a significant threat to public safety, the sustainability of infrastructure, and national socio-economic development.
The cities of Chlef, Algiers, and Boumerdes—severely affected by devastating earthquakes in 1980 and 2003, as well as floods in 2010—demonstrate the vulnerability of urban areas to natural disasters and highlight the urgent need to integrate prevention and resilience into civil engineering practices.
Analyze and share lessons learned from past disasters to better anticipate and mitigate future risks.
Develop advanced modeling tools and probabilistic approaches to assess structural reliability and performance.
Promote a culture of resilience by integrating infrastructure safety, monitoring, and maintenance practices.
Modernize infrastructure engineering practices and strengthen governance frameworks.
Foster cooperation between universities, research laboratories, engineering firms, public institutions, and industry to establish a coherent national strategy.
Position Boumerdès as a living laboratory, where the memory of past catastrophes serves as a driver for scientific, educational, and practical innovation.
RISKGC 2026 thus represents a strategic initiative dedicated to strengthening prevention, enhancing resilience, and improving the management of major risks in civil engineering across Algeria.
